In 1994, I was having lunch with a friend, the general manager of the cable company that provided key services to northern Colorado. He was hearing about the notion of "500 channels," coming to a TV near you, and he thought that was insane. I had helped start the first ISP in Northern Colorado, and Bob knew I had a different take on the future. So he asked me: "Tom, where's the content going to come from?" My response: "Bob, the content is going to come from you, and me, and the folks at the table next to us (we were at the Rio in Fort Collins) and from anyone you know and a whole bunch of people you don't know."
What was true 1994, is still very much true in 2009. We (collectively) are the source of the content we consume. I don't believe we have understood and embraced and leveraged that in the way we need to. It was interesting in 1994. It's even more interesting today, and Andrew, you nailed it. Thanks!
